The mythical value attached to the activities of the former is replaced in Hesiod by a more utilitarian value of work. Work "for others" gives rise to original developments on the demiurges, thetes and therapontes. Against the dominant discourse, this study demonstrates that the Homeric slave, bound by forced labor, is distinguished from other social groups
